Paths for Families recognizes and respects how important personal privacy is to you. Your personal information is the information specific to you that you provide us. This includes the information you share with us, whether in person or electronically.

When and why does Paths for Families collect personal information?

  • When you request services from us, we collect personal information in order to process your request. We keep this information as required by child placement agency laws and licensing regulations so that we can give you the services you request. Some of this information also goes to our bank, credit card, and electronic check processors. These companies follow the same security guidelines that we do.
  • When you send us email, we’ll keep the content of the email, your email address, and our response so that we can follow-up on questions you may have.

How does Paths for Families use the personal information I provide?

Care is taken with the information you have provided to us because it represents the trust you place in us. Paths for Families will use your personal information in the normal course of doing business simply to do what you’ve asked us to do. We will also use this information to provide positive identification of you when you contact us.

Does Paths for Families provide personal information to external parties?

With the very narrow exceptions noted here, Paths for Families does not and will not provide personal information to third parties without your permission. Under no circumstances will we sell your personal information to third parties.

  • We may share personal information with business partners if they need it in order to give you the service you requested. For example, in order to process your credit card/debit card/checks, we give our partner only the information they need to provide this service.
  • Your information may be disclosed to government authorities or other third parties when required by law, including, but not limited to, in response to court orders and subpoenas, to report suspected child abuse or neglect, if we believe you pose a danger to yourself or others, or if a public health emergency exists.

At Paths for Families, we employ cookies and similar technologies to enrich your online experience. On the Paths for Families website, analytics cookies powered by Google Analytics provide us with insights into visitor behavior and non-identifying details. This includes information about the duration of website visits, the most frequently viewed pages, and the sources of referrals.

Cookie Consent Banner

Paths for Families’ cookie consent banner allows users to manage their cookie preferences by granting or denying specific Google Analytics parameters. When a user chooses to deny cookies, the following changes take effect:

  • No New Advertising Cookies: We won’t add any new cookies related to advertising.
  • No Reading of Existing Advertising Cookies: Existing advertising cookies won’t be accessed.
  • Different Domain for Requests: Requests will be sent using a separate domain to prevent sending previously stored third-party cookies.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads: Google Analytics won’t access or create Google Ads cookies, and features like Google signals won’t collect data for this purpose.
  • IP Address Protection: Our ads products will abbreviate IP addresses during data collection.
  • Complete URL Tracking: We’ll track full page URLs, including ad-click details in URL parameters.
  • No First-Party Analytics Cookies: We won’t read or write first-party analytics cookies.
  • Cookieless Pings: We’ll transmit cookieless data to Google Analytics for basic measurement and modeling.

Will I ever receive unsolicited mail from Paths for Families?

We do on occasion distribute information that may be of interest to our clients and community. Most frequently this comes via e-newsletters. If you would prefer not to receive communications from us, please let us know by calling 301-439-2900 or sending an email to info@pathsforfamilies.org.

How does Paths for Families communicate via text message and how can I opt out?

Paths for Families, also known as “Adoptions Together, Inc.” or “Adoptions Together,” and formerly referred to as “FamilyWorks Together,” may send the following types of text/SMS messages:

  • Event and Fundraiser Information:
    • Individuals who register for an event or fundraiser through OneCause provide a phone number and will receive additional information before and during the event or fundraiser. To opt out, you can reply with “STOP.”
  •  Pregnancy Resources and Communication:
    • Individuals who visit our pregnancy resources page or communicate with us via our online chat may choose to exchange text messages with our team or share their phone numbers for texts or calls. In some cases, our clients may also receive messages from our team regarding services or for appointment scheduling and reminders.
    • Please note that all communication is kept confidential and private, and we do not share or sell your information to third parties. Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply. If you want to discontinue receiving text messages, you can reply with “STOP.” For assistance, you can reply with “HELP”.
    • Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages.

Do I have any special rights because of federal laws or regulations?

In addition to the rights described here, federal regulations (45 CFR 164) give you the right to:

  • Request restrictions on certain uses and disclosures, although Paths for Families is not required to agree to a requested restriction
  • Receive confidential communications of protected health information
  • Inspect and copy protected health information
  • Amend protected health information
  • Receive an accounting of disclosures
  • Obtain a paper copy of this notice upon request

What should I do if I believe my privacy rights have been violated?

Please contact us right away if you have reason to believe that Paths for Families has violated your privacy rights. You can email Paths for Families or call us at 301-439-2900. In addition, you can file a complaint through our Complaint Policy or with the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Filing a complaint will not result in any action being taken against you.
