Professional and Parent Conferences
Adoptions Together sponsors an annual educational conference for professionals to share current information and research in the field, and to introduce new strategies and techniques that professionals can apply in their daily work with children and families. An annual educational conference is also provided for parents to explore critical parenting issues and better equip families to meet the challenges of raising foster and adopted children. Past conferences have focused on issues such as Attachment and Trauma and Managing Challenging Children, and have featured well-known experts including Dan Hughes, Ph.D. and Juli Alvarado, MA, LPC, NCC. Our primary goal is to provide professionals and parents with current, relevant information that they can use to inform their work or improve their lives.
Comments from parents and professionals attending last year’s conferences…
This conference both reinforced my intuition about how to serve children and families and gave me new ways of communicating with them. Extraordinary!
Wonderful training…extremely useful!
Excellent knowledge and presentation. My wife and I are able to take many positive solutions home with us to put into practice.
Annual Family Connections Conference
The annual Family Connections conference provides a unique opportunity for adopted children, their siblings, and their parents to come together in a fun atmosphere to share their experiences and learn more about the joys and challenges of keeping a family strong. Through dynamic workshops and engaging guest speakers, parents and children are able to enhance their knowledge and skills, strengthen family bonds, and forge new connections. Past conference themes have focused on family traditions and rituals, embracing differences, effective communication, and cultural diversity. Food, fun, and fellowship make this a celebration that families look forward to year after year.
Comments from families who attended our previous Family Connection Conferences…
My son had a GREAT time. He is already planning on what he’s going to do at the next conference. He loved the teddy bear and backpack that he received at the conference. I was glad that the younger kids were able to come back and do the family banner project with us. He loves our banner. When we got home he kept saying how beautiful it was and asked to put it on the wall. Now he looks at it every day and says, “best family!”
I thought it was a great conference as the speaker was very engaging and knowledgeable on the subject matter….she was excellent and I am really enjoying reading her book. Thank you for organizing such a wonderful event!”
My family and I greatly enjoyed the conference. It is an annual event for us and we had a great time again this year. The speaker was very informative and we came away with a lot of new ideas and fun things we can try at home.”
