The breast feeding four year old on the cover of Time Magazine ignited quite a controversy. Attachment parenting, a philosophy developed by Dr. William Sears, is at the center of a battle with moms aligned on either side. In the simplest terms, attachment parenting is a parenting approach that emphasizes the importance of being responsive, sensitive and attuned to the cues of your baby, thereby enhancing trust, attachment and bonding. Those who support attachment parenting believe that by listening closely to the “language” of their infant, parent and child will be more in sync.
