As the end of the school year draws near, thoughts turn to more carefree days and summer vacation plans. Foster families often ask me if they should include foster children in their family vacation plans, or if it is better for foster children to stay home. Children in foster care should be considered part of the family, and as such, it is a good idea to take them on family vacations when feasible and appropriate. At the same time, there might be special circumstances where taking a foster child on a family vacation may not be in the best interest of the child or the foster family.
