How Long Does a Home Study Take?

Once you decide to adopt a child, the first step in the adoption process is the home study. So how long does a home study take? A typical home study takes about 90 days to complete once your adoption agency has received all required documents and clearances. The amount of time it takes to complete your home study will depend on several factors. These include the type of adoption you choose to pursue, and how quickly you complete the documents required by your home study provider.  In some circumstances, your home study can be expedited with prior approval at the time of application.
