Treatment of Attachment and Trauma-Related Issues Conference
Are you a therapist or caseworker serving children who have experienced trauma, abandonment and/or abuse? As mental health professionals, we want to meet the needs of our clients and expand our capacities to serve foster and adoptive children and their families. This day long professional training will focus on intermediate/advanced therapeutic techniques to help families with the attachment process. The afternoon breakout sessions will distinguish between children supported by their families and children living in out of home placements who currently do not have a family’s support. Daniel Hughes, PhD. will deliver our keynote address and both he and Arthur Becker-Weidman, PhD. will provide training in the breakout sessions. A basic understanding of the attachment process will enhance the experience of this conference.  Click here for more information on the speakers.

     The Impact of Disruption
One of the most challenging aspects of working with adoptive families is the possibility of disruption, which occurs in 10-15% of adoptions. As professionals, we want to provide our clients the very best coping strategies and alternatives. Research indicates that parents who utilize social and community resources have higher success rates in surviving the threat of disruption. This 120-minute seminar will provide you with the tools necessary to help your families through this very difficult time.

  Crisis Management...Don't Panic!!  Helpful Interventions
Working with children who have experienced chaotic early lives and traumatic experiences can be emotionally exhausting. Traumatized children can be destructive and aggressive in behavior. As caregivers, we all want to help the children in our programs calm down during these times of rage. We also want to provide families with the very best services. Studies indicate that outbursts can be more readily managed when staff members learn intervention strategies. This training will provide you with the skills you will need to avoid power struggles and to enlist a cooperative attitude.

Upon request.  Contact amccain@adoptionstogether.org.
