One of the most difficult aspects of parenting is talking to your children about their sexuality. As parents we want to provide them with accurate information while helping them to develop a sense of personal responsibility and respect for others. Studies show that open communication between parents and children reduce the likelihood of
high-risk behavior in children and adolescents. This 90- minute seminar will provide you with the communication tools you will need to talk to your children in ways that will be provide information while minimizing embarrassment.

Toddler Adoption
Families who adopt children between the ages of 1–5 years face a specific set of challenges. They are old enough to walk and run, may have some language, may have some memory of past events, and definitely have their own personality! These elements make for a lively addition and many new adjustments to your household. This 2 1/2 hour workshop will explore issues and develop strategies to help families ease the adjustment for both you and your toddler. The speaker is adoption social worker that specializes in early childhood development.
Talking to Your Child About Adoption
One of the most difficult, but important aspects of being an adoptive parent is discussing the adoption experience with your child. As parents, we all want to respond appropriately to our children’s feelings and questions about adoption. Research indicates how important it is for adopted children to discuss their thoughts and concerns as part of the healing process. This 90-minute seminar will provide techniques for adoptive parents to help their children cope with comments, feelings, and questions.
Black and White: Families Crossing the Color Line
Learn about the unique aspects of raising children of another race and what it means to grow up black in a raceconscious society. Participants will learn about how race may impact the identity of their child, explore their hidden biases, and how to expand communities.

Parenting Adolescents Through Mindfulness
This workshop will introduce parents to the major concepts of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). This model is gaining vast popularity with both clients and mental health professionals across the country and in Europe. DBT works to decrease emotional pain and to increase skills to tolerate distress, manage emotions, maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, and to be more fully in the moment. Parents learn coping skills in a multifamily setting along with their adolescents. Through skills acquisition, they become better equipped to coach their children in the home environment.
