Parental Qualifications for Adoption in Moldova

This program is available to married couples and single women. Applicants should be in good mental and physical health, and without a recent criminal record. Each parent must be under age 60 years at the time of placement. Our agency prefers no more than 45 years difference between the child’s age and the age of the younger parent.

  Moldova Adoption Program and Procedure

Once your home study and dossier documents are complete, the dossier will be sent to Spence-Chapin. Spence-Chapin will submit the dossier to the National Adoption Committee. The current wait for the referral of a child is estimated at one year from the date the dossier is submitted to the National Adoption Committee. For prospective adoptive parents requesting older children or children with special needs, the wait for a referral may be shorter. The referral information will include detailed information about the child.

Adoptions from Moldova require two trips, several weeks apart. Each trip is about one week long. After accepting the referral, the family travels to Moldova within 2 to 3 months. On this first trip, the family spends several days visiting with the child. The family then attends a court hearing on the first trip. The adoption is finalized within 3 to 4 weeks after the first trip. The family then travels for the second trip to complete the process and bring the child home. Families are escorted during their trips by a representative from Fundatia Andrea and are in regular contact with Spence-Chapin while overseas.
