Build a Black Adoptive Family
What is BBAF
The Building Black Adoptive Families Council, also known as “BBAF,” is an auxiliary council of parents that have adopted African American infants and children through Adoptions Together. The BBAF council believes that there are far too many children of African descent waiting to be adopted. The council also believes that there are numerous singles and couples willing to adopt these children, but these families or single persons may not know where to turn for help.
The BBAF council meets regularly and sets forth initiatives to guide families through the sometimes confusing and daunting task of adopting infants, school-age children and siblings of African descent through Adoptions Together. Please learn about our initiatives and activities or contact us if you have any other questions. We are glad to speak to anyone who would like to build a Black adoptive family!
BBAF Initiatives:
The BBAF council's initiatives include:
Adoption Ambassadors: This subcommittee of the council is responsible for bringing information back to their respective communities and sharing their adoption stories at select information sessions hosted by Adoptions Together.
Speaker Bureau: This subcommittee of the council is responsible for speaking to the media about the urgent need to adopt infants and children of African descent by sharing their personal testimony of their adoption experience with Adoptions Together. Please contact us to receive a media kit.
Buddy Families: Our buddy families support those in the adoption process with Adoptions Together by communicating regularly with the waiting families smoothing the transition and wait period involved with the adoption process.
Project "If Not Us:" A federally funded grant received by Adoptions Together in 2002. The media campaign and materials continue to be shared with and utilized by the media in an effort to invite more African Americans to consider adopting children 10 and older. Below are the campaign's public service announcements:
