Adopt an Older Child or Sibling Group
FREE Training for Virginia Residents.
We are very pleased that you are considering adopting an older child or a sibling group who is currently residing in foster care in the United States. At any given time there are thousands of children living in public foster care throughout the US. About one-tenth of them are waiting to be adopted. Many of the children are a part of a sibling group and desperately want to be adopted together. Adoptions Together's initiative, AdoptionWorks, finds permanent families for these children.
Children in foster care need permanent homes with loving and consistent parents who can nurture and protect them, and be advocates for them. However, building a trusting and permanent relationship with an older child who has grown up in unstable surroundings can be a challenge. Through education, training, counseling and support, AdoptionWorks ensures that adoptive families are prepared to meet the needs of these children, and are able to provide the loving and safe home that we believe each child deserves.
At Adoptions Together we believe that education is an important part of the adoption process. We would like to help you learn more about adoption and the adoption process so you can make an informed decision. You are welcome to RSVP and join us at one of our regularly scheduled information meetings.
Parental Qualifications
AdoptionWorks is looking for adults, with or without children, who have the space in their hearts and homes to provide a permanent, loving home for a child or a sibling group who is stranded in foster care. As a potential parent, you must demonstrate that you are physically and emotionally able to lovingly care for a child. We work with couples, preferably married for at least one year, and with singles, regardless of race, faith, gender or orientation. All potential parents must complete our 27-hour training program, before completing their home study and being considered for the adoption of a child in foster care.
Adoptions Together is pleased to offer training for those interested in adopting a school aged child or sibling group from public foster care. This training is being offered FREE OF CHARGE to all eligible Virginia residents through a grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation.
