Older Child Adoption Training

Before the home study is conducted, families and individuals who live in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington DC and who are interested in adopting an older child from foster care must first complete a 27-30 hour adoptive parent training. Adoptions Together offers a 27-hour training that is based on the federally recognized training modality, PRIDE. The training is required for both of our two older child adoption placement programs (AdoptionWorks and the Permanency Opportunities Project). In this training, families are prepared to parent children with emotional, behavioral, cognitive, or physical challenges through a 27-hour specialized training program. The training is designed for parents who are considering the adoption of children ages 9 and over. The focus of this course is on developing awareness in the prospective parent and teaching effective parenting strategies.
