International Adoption – Haiti Adoption Services
At Adoptions Together, our heart goes out to the children that were separated from their families following the earthquake on January 12, 2010. As efforts to reunite them with their living relatives continue, children available for adoption prior to the earthquake find themselves in even more traumatic situations with an even greater need for permanent, loving homes.
Available Children
Children available for Haitian adoption are typically 18 months or older at the time of their referral to prospective adoptive parents. Many come from emotionally stable backgrounds with loving families. They will be dealing with the trauma of the earthquake, the loss of their famlies, and the transition to a new family.
In some cases, information regarding the background of the child may be limited. Prospective families will receive results of a cursory medical exam, including HIV, hepatitis, and sickle cell testing. Photos and first-hand reports of the child's behavior are usually available.
Requirements of Parents for Haiti Adoption
Married couples and single females over the age of 35 that reside within the Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia areas are able to participate in Haitian adoption through Adoptions Together. Qualified parent(s) must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Married couples must be married for at least 10 years (or married for at least 7 with cohabitation equaling at least 10 years)
• Married couples may have no more than 3 biological children living at home
• Single women may have no more than 2 biological children at home
