China Adoption Program and Procedure
The adoption process for China is wonderfully regulated and is typically very smooth. We have worked with our staff for more than 18 years and our families rave about the efficient, personable and compassionate care they receive throughout their adoption journey. There is an extended waiting time for a referral through the non-special needs program. Currently, referrals are being made for families whose dossiers were submitted in 2006.
We place children from orphanages throughout China and have established relationships with many orphanage directors. On occasion, children live in a foster care home rather than in an orphanage.
After your dossier is translated and fully authenticated, we send it to China in a group with other families’ dossiers. This will become your “travel group”. When a child is referred to you, you receive two to three photographs of the child and a 2-page medical examination report. This report states the child's head circumference, height and weight and the results of syphilis, Hepatitis B, and HIV tests. You also receive a 3 page developmental checklist describing your child's progress.
At least one of the adopting parents must travel to China to finalize the adoption in country. Travel dates are approximately 5-7 weeks after acceptance of a referral and the typical in-country stay is about 18 days. You will first travel to Beijing, then to the province capitol to finalize the adoption, and then to the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou to obtain your child's U.S. visa.
The trip to China is a wonderful opportunity to experience your child's culture and to travel "worry free" with all of the details arranged by our delightful English speaking staff. They will meet your plane and remain with you throughout your stay until you bring your child HOME!
